WHAT WAS THE PDC?
The aim of the Centre was to offer young players with potential the best coaching and environment we could offer to assist their personal development in football.
The Centre ran for 4 consecutive seasons 2006 - 2010 and accommodated boys in the following age groups: U11, U12, U13 & U14/U15 (please note girls could have been nominated for the under 11 age group, but it was strongly recommended that they should seek a place at the Kidderminster Harriers Girls Centre of Excellence, which was available at the time).
The Centre format per season, involved 2 ten week coaching programmes which took place on Thursday evenings at Pershore High School, with the first block commencing in September and the second in January, of any given season. Under 11’s & Under 12’s trained in the early slot (5.45pm to 7.15pm) and the Under 13’s and 14/15’s trained in the later slot (7.15pm to 8.45pm).
In the 4 years that the Centre ran over 300 local grassroots football players collectively completed the comprehensive coaching programme, which also included goalkeeper specific training; some of these players have gone on to sign contracts with professional & semi- professional club academies.
Whilst the primary aim of the Centre was to develop players, the secondary aim was to develop coaching by encouraging grassroots football coaches to attend the Player Development Centre and observe the sessions, from which hopefully they would develop new ideas that could then be taken back into their club environment and reproduced.
