The Charter Standard Player Development Scheme (PDS) exists to assist in addressing the BETTER PLAYERS goal, which forms part of the County Development Strategy.
In brief, the Scheme provides guidance & support to grassroots coaches via a 5-week coaching & mentoring programme, using the players with whom they usually coach to demonstrate new ideas i.e. introducing volunteers to new coaching methods, developing their existing knowledge and know-how, challenging the players in the process.
The PDS replaced the Boys Player Development Centre (PDC) that previously ran from 2006 - 2010. Whilst the Scheme adheres to the same ethos as the PDC, prioritising welfare, development & enjoyment, it does operate in a different format (i.e. not exclusive to the most talented players). Therefore the Scheme invites any boys, girls & mixed teams, aged U7’s to U18’s from within Charter Standard Clubs, to apply.
Delivering the PDS in this format increases the likelihood of a greater impact on player development across the County; achieved through accommodating children with wider ability levels across more age groups, after all it’s about the players, and regardless of their starting level we want to make them better and assist grassroots coaches to further develop in the process.
The PDS re-opened in October 2011 and, since then, has accommodated a further 10 Charter Standard Club squads, working with their players and coaches.
